With numbers rising Prime Minister Boris Johnson has finally done what so many countries around the world have done.
Johnson announced a full lockdown across the country late Monday.
The PM announced the the closure of all shops selling non-essential goods as well as playgrounds and churches and all gatherings of more than two people.
Johnson says everybody must stay home unless going out for essential supplies or medical treatment.
Parks will be patrolled on a regular basis to make sure there's no abuse of freedom of exercise.
'Though huge numbers are complying – and I thank you all - the time has now come for us all to do more,' Mr Johnson said.
'From this evening I must give the British people a very simple instruction - you must stay at home.
'Because the critical thing we must do is stop the disease spreading between households.'
Huge announcement from the PM on Monday night, please comply!
